Question - TAW5 BBS - How to improve the subtitels visual appearance?? No.70881
Massimo Gironi  2017-10-23 18:21:34 ( ID:vo2peycsvx6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi all, I am a TMPGEnc Authoring Works 6 user and I would like to make a DVD.
Everything is fine apart the film subtitles that always look with a jagged border. I tried to change many subs options and fonts but the poor subs graphic quality is still there.

Any advise about how to improve the subs appearance?

Thanks!

If you are lucky, it might be a result of your media player not decoding the video properly. In this case you can try another media player.

If the subtitles are "hard-coded", meaning you can't disable them in TAW, you don't have much choice. They are now part of the actual video stream. Subtitles on DVDs are image files and can't be edited into another format directly. Possibly re-rendering it as a non-interlaced (progressive) stream might help.

If you find that TAW will let you suppress the subtitle track, then you have more choices. You can extract the subtitles as a PGS file and perform OCR on the file, with something like Subtitle Edit. However, your results will always have to be checked and corrected, usually based on the font of the original subtitle. This can be an onerous process.

Or you can search for SRT subtitles on one of the many subtitle sites on the web. Download the appropriate language file, then add it into your project using TAW. While I use this when I can, be aware that the accuracy of these can vary and, obviously, you are out of luck if you can't find subtitles for your particular video.

If you can't disable the subtitle, I don't think any procedure will help. Maybe someone else has a solution.

Thank you very much Hurricane for your explanation.

I have the SRT file. I am going to follow your advice.

Best,

Massimo

Question - TAW6 - Size Adjustment No.70880
Weisshaupt  2017-10-20 23:09:36 ( ID:n1kbhjos7lk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can explain exactly what size adjustment does in terms of actual video settings? Is there a place I can look to see what the algo decided? I have a number of smaller ( 350M, H.263) files that I want to write to blu-ray, and their average bit rate is only around 2K. Some of then contain slide show stills and require an even smaller rate to encode.. . I would like to preserve what quality is there, and H.264 should be able to do that at or near that same bitrate (Right?) , but the default settings want to make them into full bitrate pretty Blu-ray files.

I understand I can adjust the encoding bit rates manually, but I was wondering if there is a way to compare what size adjustment does with the manual settings? IS one going to have a better result than the other? IF so, why?

hurricnae51  Home )  2017-10-25 01:21:34 ( ID:3rssf7ypizo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not quite sure what you are mean by "size adjustment". The source "size" in megabytes has little to do with the quality of the video. If you mean resolution (pixels), then all blu-rays are 1920x1080. That doesn't mean they will fill the screen on your TV or other HD monitor, as there are different aspect ratios for different content.

It's important to understand that bitrate is just one of the myriad parameters involved in rendering a video. "Full bitrate" has no meaning. Any re-rendering will degrade the original source, although it may be impercetible. Rendering is just as much art as science, but TAW does a fair job with most source material.

Why don't you just make a sample blu-ray and see the results? If you see problems, then you can post specific questions.

Question - TAW6 - Copy Menu Iten Text Attributes No.70879
hurricane51  2017-10-20 10:48:10 ( ID:3rssf7ypizo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is there a way to copy all of the text attributes from one menu item to another item(s)? I see a way to copy effects, but it would be very useful to format one item, like an episode in a TV series, then apply that formatting to the remaining items. I think I must be missing something, as that is a feature of some other authoring tools.

tkrave  2017-10-26 14:20:59 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The best thing you can do is use the batch font edit function in the Edit Menu of the Menu stage.
This will allow you to set the font, the weight, the size, etc. and then apply them all items or to certain types of items (click the "Coverage" button to select what types of items to change).

Ades  2017-10-10 14:59:20 ( ID:nrp09m2aqdn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, I think this is related your source file, what is it?
If for ex. it is an AVI file, probably the codec used does not use all cores to decode.
You may need to check in Options > Preferences > the Multithread settings, as well as check if the CPU cores are recognized in CPU/GPU settings.
cheers

Question - TAW4 - Convert an existing BD project to DVD? No.70863
Tom D'Ambrosio  2017-09-26 22:14:59 ( ID:pwh7kneaw.h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created BlueRay project but I want change the format to DVD without starting over from scratch.

Is this possible?

tkrave  2017-09-30 13:56:46 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are a few things you can do, but ultimately, you'll have to rebuild the project.

You can save your keyframes/chapters from your Bluray and use them for the DVD.
If you customized your menu items by applying styles, you can save those styles as a template to use in other projects.

If for some reason, you made your menu in SD and not HD, you can save it as a template and use it for the DVD. If you made an HD menu, you won't be able to use it for DVDs.

Bug report - TVMW6 - Windows 7 system crash No.70853
John Nicolettos  2017-09-14 02:47:49 ( ID:gwzmwlxdqzc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a licensed copy of TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress (EN) and wanted to try Mastering Works 6. I downloaded a trial version which worked fine until I tried using the Timeline mode. That action locked up my computer and I had to do a hardware shutdown which corrupted my OS(Window 7 -64 bit).

I was able to recover my OS, but, when I tried to uninstall the program the uninstaller ran for over 5 minutes without stopping. I just got a busy mouse icon. I'm concerned that whatever the program did to my system is still a problem. Any advise on how to get this program off my computer, without using "Windows Uninstall" would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would be interested if anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you do to fix it.

Thanks

Ades  2017-10-10 14:47:16 ( ID:nrp09m2aqdn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Never, heard about such behavior,
I recommend you to check your hardware, you can try to uninstall using a freeware such as Revo uninstaller:
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
delete including the registry entries.
cheers,

Question - TAW6 - output in .iso and creating region a free DVD No.70848
OscarTG  2017-09-06 12:40:35 ( ID:czfmq36fdn2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello, is there an option to output in .iso? Also can I create a region free DVD? Thank you.

tkrave  2017-09-14 13:16:25 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, you can create an .iso from your output files. The software outputs the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, then you can use the Disc Writing Tool to create an iso from that.

I believe you can ONLY create region free DVDs as I can't find a way to set a region. I could be wrong though.

Question - TAW5 BBS - Trial Version Crash No.70843
Servant  2017-08-30 12:42:15 ( ID:0cc.476orpk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded the trial version of the V6 software. I was testing using three Mp4 files converted from Edius. Two were an hour long each (high school plays) and the other an 8 minute clip. Total time 1:50:00. So I made a basic custom menu with three menu boxes for the three clips. I was in the middle of simulating the environment when the program crashed. And that is my question...is this not a stable program? I really don't want to plunk down $100 to find out the system isn't stable. I was hoping that if this authoring worked I could buy the program and finalize but sadly, when it crashed it took all three hours of work setting up the chapters and menus with it. Really disappointing. Even before it crashed I couldn't find a save button so I was hoping it was automatically saving as I went along but alas, no such luck. Lost it all. So, what is the deal with this?

tkrave  2017-09-14 13:21:43 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've never had it crash on me personally, but obviously, that's not a guarantee since computers are different.

You can save the project by clicking on "Options" in the upper right corner and selecting to save the project. It does not automatically save, though that would be a nice feature to have.

Question - TVMW6 - UI reacting very slowly No.70842
Otto  2017-08-29 16:17:42 ( ID:k26qnzxicrr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
first of all: I am very happy with TMPGEnc 6. I like working with it and the usability of the software i think is awesome. Also Hurray! for the Batch-Rendering-Feature.

However since i first started using TMPGEnc i have the problem, that the UI is reacting very slowly on changes.

For example: When i insert a clip into the timeline i have to wait 5 seconds. When i want to set the current play-marker somewhere on the clip it takes another 5-8 seconds until the preview-window updates. Same when i try to split a clip: At least 10 seconds until something is happening.

The other major thing is playback in preview-window: While the sound is on time, the preview-window is never keeping up. It mostly stops displaying anything at all, only a freeze frame. When i hit the stop-button the preview-image updates after 5 seconds.

Does anyone have a suggestion how this can be eliminated?
My computer-specifications are: Intel Core i7-2600K - 3,40 GHz, 24 GB RAM, 64-Bit Windows 7, GeForce GTX 1070

I have already set the option "Pre-Rendering - Save Folder" to RAM so it's not caching on the harddisk, but no change.

Mostly i am rendering videos 1920x1080 - 60 FPS and 2440x1440 - 60 FPS.

I am open for any suggestion. It is so hard to work with the software, when you have to wait every few seconds for the ui-update.

Best regards,
Otto

Otto  2017-09-03 03:29:10 ( ID:k26qnzxicrr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just to clarify: If no one has a solution i am also very happy to hear from your user-experience. Do you have the same problem when working with clips? Does your TMPGenc react immediately when changing properties or moving clips? Any help or review would be appreciated, so i may be able to narrow the problem down.

Best regards,
Otto

tkrave  2017-09-16 13:46:20 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I only get that kind of slow down when I work with videos higher than 1080p, so maybe your system just can't handle it. I mostly work with 720p and 1080i footage and it works great with that.

I'm on Windows 10, Core i7, 16 GB RAM.

Question - TAW6 - Default button in menu No.70840
IVPR  2017-08-24 01:13:05 ( ID:r1hbcxrvbxr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just upgraded to AW6. In 5 I couldn't get the first chapter to be highlighted when moving forward or back to menu pages and I can't get it right in 6 either. In 6 I get it to highlight the first chapter when moving to 2nd page but when going back to first page it highlights the 'next' button or the last chapter on the page. I have tried virtually every combination of 'Global Settings' and 'Page Local Settings'. Does this function just not work or am I the idiot??

tkrave  2017-09-16 13:48:21 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've tried to do it too and have the same results as you. Maybe it's a bug or maybe they didn't describe the function correctly, because the way it's described, you should be able to highlight the first chapter/track in a page.

Question - TMSR5 - Converting Flv File No.70839
SouthGaBoy  2017-08-23 16:40:15 ( ID:9w5clt/jgzo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have some FLV files with Speex audio, I have noticed that this program supports FLV files but it will not load the Speex audio portion of the files. Does anyone know of a way to do this or if speex audio decoding will be added in a future version?

tkrave  2017-09-16 13:52:26 ( ID:t7rw5rdz3jm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you tried using the DirectShow filter for Speex? If not, you can download it here: https://xiph.org/dshow/

That might solve the problem.
